(13 June) T20 World Cup Points Table: The poor run of New Zealand continues as West Indies overpowers the Blackcaps in the 26th Match of ICC T20 World Cup 2024. With this win, West Indies are through to the Super Eights and New Zealand are almost out of the race for the next stage. Here is the Latest updated T20 World Cup Points table 2024 after WI vs NZ.
It was a rollercoaster ride kind of match where the match was always swinging one side or the other. None was dominating throughout the contest, to be honest, like it has been the story of this World Cup.
Winning the toss, the Blackcaps decided to hunt the target. Trent Boult did what he was supposed to do, "the first over wicket". Not only him but the two pacers along with him- Lockie and Southee, were successful and picked up four wickets in the batting powerplay. West Indies lost 6 wickets under 58 runs in 11 overs and it seemed that New Zealand were all over West Indies but not for too long.
Sherfane Rutherford played a blistering innings in the middle and death over and posted 68 runs in 38 balls. He got assistance from small cameos of Russell and Shefford and West Indies posted an average total of 149 on the board.
The chase began better for New Zealand where they posted 36 runs and lost two wickets. New Zealand showed better quality of batting at the crease but they were not able to hold it for long. As soon as any partnership was getting underway, they managed to lose a wicket and that opened up the way for the MEN in MAROON.
Glenn Phillips and Mitch Santner gave it their all in the chase in the death overs but the asking rate was too high. West Indies won the match by 12 runs in the end and cemented their berth in the Super Eights.
