PAK vs NZ: Pakistan's white ball skipper Babar Azam is very close to surpassing Imran Khan?s record of becoming the most successful skipper in the history of the Shaheens in terms of highest number of victories.



The 29 year old with 79 victories next to his name as a captain recently overtook Wasim Akram and became the second most successful skipper in the history of Pakistan Cricket following the Men in Green's victory against New Zealand in the second T20i of the five match series.



Imran Khan, who led the Shaheens to their first and only World Cup victory in 1992 after defeating England in the final at Melbourne?s iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), is currently leading the list in terms of the captain with the highest number of wins for Pakistan with 89 victories in 187 games.



Fast bowler Wasim Akram, who is the third most successful skipper after Babar Azam and Imran Khan, captained the Shaheens in two World Cup campaigns, 1999 and 2003 respectively. The Men in Green came close winnings their second World Cup in 1999 but were defeated by the mighty Aussies in the final.



The duo of Misbah - ul - Haq and Inzamam - ul - Haq are at the fourth and the fifth spots while Sarfaraz who led Pakistan to their maiden ICC Champions Trophy victory in 2017, is the sixth most successful Pakistan skipper in terms of wins with 61 victories in 100 games next to his name.

Babar Azam was recently reappointed as the Pakistan?s white ball skipper on 31st March following a meeting with Mohsin Naqvi- chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Along with the newly appointed selection committee, Mohsin Naqvi saw Babar as the best possible candidate to lead Pakistan in this year's 2024 T20 World Cup.



Post the conclusion of the 2023 ODI World Cup, Azam was removed from his captaincy duties across all formats of the game and Shaheen Shah Afridi was handed the leadership duties of the Shaheens for T20 internationals and Shan Masood became the Men in Green's Test Skipper.



Shaheen Afridi?s only assignment as a captain was the T20i series against New Zealand in January 2024. The Men in Green lost the series by a margin of 1-4 which created doubts regarding the seamers ability as a skipper.

Pakistani skipper Babar Azam is on the verge of becoming the most successful skipper in the history of T20 International Cricket. The 29-year-old needs to win just one more game to achieve this feat and leapfrog Uganda?s Brian Masaba.



With Shaheens set to play a total of seven T20 International games against Ireland and England ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup, Babar's chances of becoming the most successful captain in T20i Cricket are pretty high.

Babar has currently scored 3,823 runs in the shortest format of the game and is the third-highest run-getter in T20i Cricket.



Virat Kohli is the highest run-getter with 4,037 runs next to his name in 109 innings while Rohit is second on the list with 3,974 runs.

The PCB has already announced an 18-player squad for the England and Ireland series and the squad will be shortened to 15 players for the upcoming T20 World Cup following the conclusion of the first T20 International against England on 22nd May.

Pakistan's skipper Babar Azam played a brilliant knock of 75 runs in 42 balls against Ireland in the third T20 International in the city of Dublin and this fifty meant that the 29 year old brought up his 39th Fifty plus score in T20 Internationals.



Having scored fifty plus runs 39 times, Babar now holds the record of the most 50+ scores in T20i Cricket (36 half centuries + three centuries).

The Shaheens defeated Ireland by six wickets in the third game at Dublin's Clontarf Cricket Club Stadium and this win helped them to win the three match T20i series by a margin of 2-1.



After facing a humiliating defeat in the first match by five wickets, Pakistan made a strong comeback in the series as they won the remaining two T20i's in a dominating fashion.



Chasing a total of 179 runs in the third and the final T20i, the Shaheens once again got off to a poor start as opener Saim Ayung got dismissed with a score of just 14 runs.



However, the duo of skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan ensured that the Shaheens stayed in the game as they stitched a partnership of 139 runs for the second wicket which not only helped the visitors seal the series but they also wrote their names in the record books. The duo of Rizwan and Babar became the first batting pair to score 3000 partnership - runs. While doing so, the duo also became the first batting - pair to get involved in 10 century partnerships in the shortest format of the game. India's duo of KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma are second on the list with five century stands.



 Following the dismissals of Babar Azam (75 runs in 42 balls) and Mohammad Rizwan (56 runs in 38 balls), Wicketkeeper batsman Azam Khan (18 runs in 6 balls) took matters into his own hands and helped the Shaheens get over the line as the 2022 T20 World Cup runners up chased down the target of 179 runs in 17 overs.



Earlier in the first inning, the Babar Azam led team restricted Ireland to a decent score of 178-7 in 20 overs after the hosts got off to a really strong start in their batting inning.

Varun Chakravarthy has been added to the Indian team for the ODI series against England. The development was confirmed by the Team India batter Shubman Gill on Tuesday (4th February) ahead of the first game. 
Varun Chakravarthy was seen training with the Indian team in Nagpur on Tuesday (4th February). The reports in Indian Express claimed that the mystery spinner could be in line to make his debut in the ODIs in the series, which will be the last for the team ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. 
Ahead of the first ODI, Varun Chakravarthy reportedly was seen bowling over an hour against the Indian batters during the training session at the VCA Stadium in Jamtha. The mystery spinner's addition came as a surprise because the team already has a number of spinners in Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav. 
Varun Chakravarthy's addition to the team came after his impressive performances with the ball in the T20I series against England. The mystery spinner was all over the batters as he picked up 14 wickets in the series, which is the most by any Indian spinner in the T20I bilateral series. 
The England batters struggled against Varun Chakravarthy in the T20I series, and based on that, he reportedly has been added to the team for the England ODIs. It remains to be seen if he gets added to the team for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and whom he will replace in the team. 
Varun Chakravarthy is yet to make his debut for India in ODIs. The mystery spinner has played only 23 List A games but had a great outing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 as he was the second-highest wicket-taker with 18 wickets in six matches for Tamil Nadu.

Varun Chakravarthy was seen training with the Indian team in Nagpur on Tuesday (4th February).

Ahead of the first ODI, Varun Chakravarthy reportedly was seen bowling over an hour against the Indian batters during the training session at the VCA Stadium in Jamtha.
