The SA Players are expected to join the TATA IPL 2023 on April 3. Cricket South Africa has taken this decision to ensure that the Proteas beat the Netherlands to ensure direct qualification for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. Senior players like Kagiso Rabada, David Miller, and Anrich Nortje will join the TATA IPL 2023, 4 days later. The tournament is scheduled to begin on 31st March. Here is an in-depth look at this update:?
South African Players to Join the TATA IPL 2023 season from April 3:?
The Netherlands last week announced a very strong squad for their series against Zimbabwe followed by their series against South Africa. In the T20 World Cup 2022, the Netherlands managed to get win against South Africa too. Keeping that upset in mind, CSA has decided to make it mandatory for all its senior players to play the ODI series against the Netherlands. The South Africa VS Netherlands series is a 3-match ODI series. It is a major blow for the Sunrisers as they have appointed Aiden Markram as their skipper for this season. Here is a look at the players and the franchises that might get affected:?
Team Name | List of South African Players |
Punjab Kings | Kagiso Rabada |
Gujarat Titans | David Miller |
Delhi Capitals | Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi |
Sunrisers Hyderabad | Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaassen, Aiden Markram |
Lucknow Super Giants | Quinton De Kock |
Mumbai Indians | Tristan Stubbs, Dewald Brevis |
CSA Officials had Confirmed Availability Before the Auction:?
The BCCI had earlier issued a notice to all the boards to confirm the vacancy and the availability of all the overseas players. It was expected that the Netherlands VS South Africa series would be concluded by the 28th of March and the players would be able to play the TATA IPL 2023 season from the very beginning. But there has been a slight change in the schedule.
CSA wants all the senior players to play as they intend to win the series by a big margin to qualify for the ODI World Cup 2023 to be held in India. The top 8 teams of the ICC Super League Table get direct qualification along with the hosts, hence CSA has made it mandatory for the players to stay back.
This is not the first time that an international series of South Africa is clashing with some part of the TATA IPL. Last year, TATA IPL 2022 was clashing with the end of South Africa and Bangladesh test series, the CSA had then asked the players to take a call on which format they want to play. Most players had chosen to play the TATA IPL. ?
