SRH vs RR Qualifier-2 in IPL 2024: In what promises to be an exciting encounter, Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad and Sanju Samson?s Rajasthan Royals are set to lock horns against each other in the penultimate match of the 2024 Tata Indian Premier League. It's going to be the second qualifier game of the playoffs and the match will be played tomorrow at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium. The game will commence at 7:30 pm IST.?
Both teams will be eager to give it their all in this game as it's going to be the final opportunity for both of these teams to book their spot in the final on 26th May against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Sunrisers Hyderabad faced a defeat in Qualifier One against KKR in a one-sided affair as the 2016 winners got outplayed by the two-time champions in all departments. Fighting knocks by the trio of Rahul Tripathi (55 runs in 35 balls), Heinrich Klaasen (32 runs in 21 balls) and Pat Cummins (30 runs in 24 balls) helped SRH post a below-par total of 159 runs on the board but KKR chased down the target of 160 runs in 13.4 overs. The orange army will have to bounce back from their poor performance against KKR and perform well against Rajasthan Royals if they want to face KKR in the final on Sunday.
The Rajasthan Royal on the other hand won the Eliminator game against Royal Challengers Bangalore by four wickets comfortably and ended their four-match winless streak ahead of Qualifier two. After getting back to winning - ways, RR will head to the second qualifier two high on confidence and they would be looking to defeat SRH and book their spot in the final. But, their problems haven't been solved completely and the 2008 winners need their middle-order batters to fire. Barring Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal to some extent and Riyan Parag, other middle-order batters such as Rovman Powell and Dhruv Jurel have failed to deliver and against SRH in Chennai, the entire batting unit needs to perform well if Rajasthan wants to have any chance of defeating Hyderabad in the second qualifier.
Ahead of Qualifier Two, let's take a look at three-player battles that are worth watching out for.
SRH vs RR: Three player battles to watch out for
Trent Boult vs Abhishek Sharma
SRH opener Abhishek Sharma has completely reinvented himself in the current edition of the IPL and he has played consistent innings at a strike rate of more than 200 this year. He is a crucial player for Hyderabad and his biggest - challenge will be against Rajasthan?s Trent Boult in the first six overs who continues to deceive batters with the swing he extracts with the new ball.
The 23-year-old SRH batter has struggled to deliver against Trent Boult in the past and he has scored just 13 runs in 21 deliveries against the RR seamer and has given away his wicket once as well. Keeping in mind the kind of form Sharma is currently in and the new aggressive intent that he has shown this season, it remains to be seen how well he will perform against Rajasthan's swing king in the second Qualifier.
Head to Head record between Trent Boult and Abhishek Sharma in the IPL:
- Runs scored:13?
- Deliveries: 21
- Dismissals: 1
- Dot balls:3
- Strike Rate: 61.9

Bhuvneshwar Kumar vs Sanju Samson
Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson is having his best IPL season with the bat, but in the last few matches, he has failed to convert his starts into big scores. On the other hand, after starting IPL 2024 on a slow note, Bhuvi has refound his rhythm and has produced vintage Bhuvi spells which have been full of gorgeous swing deliveries in the previous SRH vs RR encounter, the Hyderabad seamer knocked over the stumps of Sanju Samson with a beautiful in swing delivery.
Talking about IPL stats between the two players, Sanju Samson has played 92 deliveries against Bhuvneshwar and has scored 118 runs at a not-so-impressive strike - rate of 128.3. Bhuvi has dismissed Sanju on four occasions and has bowled 40 dot deliveries as well.
Head to Head record between Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Sanju Samson in the IPL:
- Runs scored: 118
- Deliveries: 92
- Dismissals: 4
- Dot balls: 40
- Strike Rate: 128.3
Yuzvendra Chahal vs Heinrich Klaasen
Sunrisers Hyderabad and Proteas wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen is regarded as one of the best overseas batters of spin in the current generation of Cricket and his battle with Rajasthan Royals leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal will undoubtedly be very interesting to watch. Klaasen has scored 28 runs in 12 deliveries against Chahal in the IPL but the leggie has also managed to get the better of the SRH wicketkeeper on one occasion. Which player will finish out on top in this exciting battle? This question will be answered in the second Qualifier between SRH and RR.
