Vivo IPL 2021 new rules: No Soft Signal, 90 minutes per innings.
Vivo IPL 2021: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday revised the rules and regulations of the Indian T20 League. All these rules will come into force from 09th April - opener of the IPL 2021. The main focus is done in two areas - removal of soft signal and reducing the time limit per innings.
According to Cricbuzz, the revised rules suggests that there will be no soft signal in the games and all the teams will have to complete their quota of 20 overs inside 90 minutes.
The BCCI sent the report to all the eight IPL franchise ahead of the IPL 2021.
?As a measure to control the match timings, the 20th over in each innings is now included in 90 minutes, earlier the 20th over was to start on or before the 90th minute,? BCCI said.
The fourth umpire has now the right to enforce the new over-rate and warn the side if it uses time-wasting tactics in the game.
After the recent controversy in the soft signal, BCCI has completely scrapped the ideas of soft signal and said on-field umpires soft signal will not bound the TV Umpire to take any decision.
?The third umpire shall determine whether the batsman has been caught, whether the delivery was a bump ball, or if the batsman willfully obstructed the field. In case of a fair catch, the third umpire will use all the technological support available to him/her. The third umpire shall communicate his/her decision,? the letter read.
BCCI also made some tweaks in the short-run call by the on-field umpire. Now the TV Umpire has all the powers to check the on-field umpires short-run call and reverse the decision if needed.
