SA vs AFG: The last three games are remaining in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The first semi-final will see a clash between South Africa and Afghanistan on Wednesday at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad. It will be followed by the India vs England semi-final on Thursday. Everything is settled, but a big concern ahead of the SA vs AFG game is the rain. The forecast suggests possible rain at the scheduled time.
It means we might see some rain breaks during the game, but everyone will hope for a complete match. As seen in the tournament so far, there have been a few games that have been washed out, while others have been affected by rain. The rain will be a headache for the knockout matches, but the organisers have done their homework, and there is extra time if it rains.
What will happen if SA vs AFG Clash gets washed out?
There have been two different rules for the two semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The second semi-final between India and England, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday, will have an extra 260 minutes available to complete the game. As it is a morning match, the wait in case of rain can be done for another 260 minutes after the scheduled time.
But that's now the case in the SA vs AFG semi-final. The first semifinal will start at 8:30 p.m. local time. If the match is not completed on the scheduled day, then the first semifinal has a reserve day. That means the game will take place on Thursday. Notably, 190 minutes are given to complete the game on reserve day. If both teams can't play 20 overs, then a minimum of 10 overs are needed to get the result.
Who will qualify for semi-final if the rain swips away both semi-finals?
Well, it looks a bit impossible that the rain can spoil both semi-finals. But you can guarantee the weather in West Indies during this time. So if both semi-finals get washed out, then India and South Africa will qualify for the finals. Both teams finished their respective groups at the top, and on the basis of the Super 8 rankings, these two teams will qualify, and Afghanistan and England will be eliminated.
