Pakistan’s Qualification Chances: The race for the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8s is getting warmed up with key teams still in the fray. So far just three teams have confirmed a place for themselves in the Super 8s of the tournament while only two teams have been eliminated. Among all the four groups, a major interest of the fans lies in the qualification scenarios of Group A, which features the likes of India, Pakistan, USA, Ireland and Canada.
Notably, Rohit Sharma-led Team India made it to the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 with their 7-wicket win over the USA at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York. With one slot in the group still up for grabs, Pakistan and USA emerge as the biggest contenders.
Interestingly, the fight which was earlier thought to be in the net run rates, has now made it completely irrelevant in Group A. Pakistan (+0.191) has sneaked above the USA (+0.127) in the net run rate and the actual battle will be on the points now.

How Pakistan can Qualify for Super 8 T20 World Cup 2024?
The prospects don’t appear to be bright for Pakistan as far as their Super 8 place is concerned. With two losses upfront, they pushed themselves on the back foot, making their way ahead in the tournament tumultuous. For Pakistan to qualify for the Super 8 T20 World Cup 2024, they need to win their only remaining fixture against Ireland in Lauderhill. Also, they wouldn’t want the USA to win against Ireland.
If the USA beats Ireland in its last fixture, they will be through to the Super 8s with six points. Even if the fixture between USA and Ireland gets washed out and the points are shared, then also USA will be through to the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8s. However, a loss against Ireland would keep them at 4 points.
To simplify the equation, Pakistan needs to win against Ireland and hope the USA lose against Ireland to make it through to the Super 8s. However, for the USA to qualify, they just need a solitary point, even a washed-out game would work for them.
Pakistan’s biggest fear is the weather forecast for Lauderhill on both the matches Pakistan vs Ireland and USA vs Ireland. If one of these two gets washed out and the points are shared, then Pakistan will see themselves getting eliminated.
The USA takes on Ireland on June 14 in Lauderhill, Florida. The same venue will also host Pakistan vs Ireland on June 16.
